WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE LETSATSI BORUTHO TRUST BURSARY COVER?
The Letsatsi Borutho Trust is inviting students to apply for their community bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.
Bursaries will be awarded to students residing within a 50km radius of the Droogfontein Solar Power plant (Northern Cape), for ALL fields of study (Degree, National Diploma or NQF level 6 technical and vocational education and training programme)
WHAT EXPENSES DOES THE LETSATSI BORUTHO TRUST BURSARY COVER?
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, exam fees, learning materials (textbooks, stationary, etc), accommodation and meals
WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE LETSATSI BORUTHO TRUST BURSARY?
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must reside within a 50km radius of the Droogfontein Solar Power plant, in the Northern Cape province
- You must be studying or intend on studying towards an NQF level 6 in technical, skills training (plumbing, bricklaying etc) and training programmes, National Diploma or Degree Programme
- You must have been accepted to study at a recognised public or private tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology or TVET College)
- You must be in financial need and demonstrate lack of sufficient financial resources to continue with tertiary education

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT FOR THE LETSATSI BORUTHO TRUST BURSARY?
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified)
- ID document (certified copy)
- Proof of acceptance to an institution (on institutions letterhead)
- Proof of residential address
- Proof of parents or guardians household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ proof of pension or grant if applicable) (certified copy)

WHAT DOES THE LETSATSI BORUTHO TRUST DO?
The Letsatsi Borutho Trust is a community trust that enables surrounding communities to benefit from the Droogfontein Solar Power Plant through its shareholding in the facility. The Trust is committed to promoting sustainable community development by investing in education, skills development and opportunities that improve the lives of people living within a 50-kilometre radius of the solar power plant.
As part of this commitment, the Trust offers an annual bursary programme to assist deserving students who wish to pursue post-school studies at accredited South African tertiary institutions. The bursary is open to students studying at recognised universities, universities of technology, and public or private TVET colleges, with applications administered by StudyTrust.
The Letsatsi Borutho Trust Bursary Programme for the 2027/2028 academic year continues the Trust’s long-term investment in developing local talent and empowering young people through access to quality higher education and vocational training. Eligible applicants must reside within the Trust’s beneficiary communities surrounding the Droogfontein Solar Power Plant and meet the programme’s academic and selection requirements.
